European Conference on Complex Systems 2011

I’ll be at ECCS 2011 next week in Vienna talking about visualising and characterising rank-value systems – I’m speaking at 3pm on Monday in the Policy session (which takes place in the Aula room). The talk will focus on how hierarchy and individual mobility changes over time in these systems and whether there are simple ways to capture this visually and with system-wide metrics, and I think the talk will be pretty accessible to those new to the field (like myself!) – there are few complicated theoretical ideas in there, and the mathematics is not too hairy.

If you are at the conference, do say hello; I currently look like this:

So even if the maths isn’t too hairy, I probably will be.
